Mind The Map

The London Transport Museum's major 2012 exhibition wants to put YOU on the map

Mind The Map

THINK about your future. Where does this thought lead you?Although a simple prospect, thinking of the future can bring along a dark, indefinite and sometimes stormy cloud.

Artist Agnès Poitevin-Navarre aims to illustrate this message cartographically, as part of London Transport Museum’s upcoming Mind The Map exhibition.  From diagrammatic, decorative and digital maps, through to contemporary artworks and interactives, Mind the Map will draw on the Museum’s map collection to explore how London’s public transport maps have not only aided navigation but have inspired art, design and cartography.

Agnès is giving you the opportunity to become part of the artwork. You can contribute your own thought map, as hazy as that may be, by heading to this site and declaring “where you hope to be” in the future.

Where will you be?Where will you be?

The site encourages participants to be “as literal or lyrical as you fancy” — from in your dream job or location to more abstract ideas such as “in a place where my achievements outweigh my ambitions”.

Don’t forget to add your postcode so that Agnès can plot your response, and your email if you’d like to be informed on the work’s development.

You can contribute by completing the questionnaire online at: www.ltmuseum.co.uk/landofhopefulcommuters

Mind the Map will be accompanied by an extensive public events programme and a book to be published by Lund Humphries – London Underground Maps: Inspiring Art, Design and Cartography.

The anecdotal map will be called Land of Hopeful Commuters, and will be on public display from 18 May to 28 October.
